North London Collegiate School Jeju seeks a University Guidance Counsellor
Start date: August 2027
Closing date for Applications: Monday 02 November 2026
NLCS Jeju seeks an experienced and dynamic University Guidance Counsellor to provide bespoke support to ambitious students, particularly in the Sixth Form/IBDP years, guiding them to admission to highly competitive university destinations globally.
Families at NLCS Jeju regard university guidance as central to the educational experience, and the Counsellor will work within a highly engaged community of parents, senior leadership and governors. A confident, articulate communicator is required, offering clear, timely and empathetic guidance throughout the admissions process.
The successful candidate will hold an advanced degree, with deep working knowledge of global admissions systems (UK, US, Canada, Asia), standardised tests (ACT, SAT) and application platforms (UCAS, Common App, Cialfo). Within the School's University Guidance Counselling Team, led by our Head of Careers and University Guidance, the Counsellor will advise on course selection, review essays and manage recommendation letters. Strong interpersonal and organisational skills, technological proficiency and a proven track record in school counselling, ideally internationally, are essential.
Core responsibilities include group sessions for students in Years 10 to 13 and presentations at parent events. Given the intensity of the application cycle (mid-August to December), the role requires extended hours, including scheduled Saturday work and evening support for boarding students.
NLCS JEJU
North London Collegiate School Jeju is a leading British international school for day and boarding students aged 4 to 18. The first school to open in the Global Education City on the spectacular island of Jeju, it has rapidly established itself as a centre of educational excellence in South East Asia. Now in its fifteenth year, the School has 1,400 students on roll.
The academic offer is unapologetically ambitious. Students take IGCSEs in Year 11 before moving to the IB Diploma in the Sixth Form, with outstanding results since the first graduating cohort in 2014. The average IB score sits consistently above 37 points out of 45, placing NLCS Jeju among the top 50 IB schools in the world, and among the top 10 for large cohorts. Graduates go on to leading universities worldwide, including Oxbridge and the Ivy League.
OUR ETHOS
The ethos of NLCS Jeju echoes that of NLCS (UK): to provide a first-rate, ambitious academic education for every child, one that inspires a life-long love of learning and gives the knowledge, attitudes and confidence to flourish.
Academic success here is earned not through an obsession with results but through an atmosphere of rigorous scholarship. Students are encouraged to look beyond the examination syllabus, developing genuine intellectual independence and a real love of their subjects.
Pastoral well-being matters equally: strong relationships between staff and students, and among the students themselves, are actively fostered. The result is an education that combines ambition with warmth: scholarship with a smile.
Beyond the classroom, the co-curricular life of the School is vibrant, spanning academic and non-academic fields alike. Subject-led clubs and societies flourish, and sport, music, art and drama are all of excellent quality. Every week, more than 300 different co-curricular activities take place.
We aim to provide every opportunity and every support our students need to flourish, academically and beyond, under one roof.
LIFE IN JEJU
Jeju Island, 130km off the southern coast of the Korean peninsula, is often described as one of Asia's best-kept secrets. Its temperate climate, dramatic natural scenery, fascinating local culture (including excellent food, both Korean and global cuisines) and beaches draw visitors from across South Korea and East Asia and, partly thanks to a number of popular TV drama series and documentaries, increasingly further afield.
In 2007, UNESCO inscribed the island as a World Natural Heritage site, recognising its outstanding geological features and its importance as a habitat for rare and endangered species.
For NLCS staff and their families, Jeju offers a safe, peaceful and breathtaking place to live, with easy connections to the rest of South Korea and to major East Asian cities, including Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taipei, Osaka and Tokyo. Further practical information about life on the island can be found on the employment pages of the NLCS Jeju website.
THE NLCS INTERNATIONAL FAMILY OF SCHOOLS
In 1850, Frances Mary Buss founded North London Collegiate School with a radical aim: to offer girls an academically ambitious education. More than 170 years later, NLCS remains one of the highest-achieving schools in the UK, with examination results that regularly top national league tables and a record of Oxbridge success that repeatedly outperforms other prestigious schools.
That ambition now reaches far beyond London. NLCS Jeju, founded in 2011, was the first international school in the family, followed by NLCS Dubai (2017), NLCS (Singapore) (2020) and, most recently, NLCS Kobe in Japan, which opened in August 2025.
NLCS takes its overseas family of schools very seriously, and the ties are genuine rather than nominal. Every newly appointed teacher is invited to London for induction and training at the UK school, generously funded by our partners. Once open, each school is annually monitored and visited for quality assurance purposes by a team from NLCS International, and the partnership stays alive through pupil and staff exchanges, professional development conferences and mentoring schemes, educational visits, co-curricular festivals and jointly produced student publications.
For talented and ambitious education professionals, that means something rare: the professional development and career progression of a world-class group, with genuine mobility between its schools.
